Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping for Children's Hospital

Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of only three dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK and provides integrated healthcare for children and young people, including community and mental health care as well as acute and specialist services.

With almost 300,000 patients in 2018/2019 and over 55,000 children attending A&E the role the hospital has within the community is of upmost importance. More than 3,000 committed staff are the key to the Trust’s success and reputation. Alongside the healthcare provided, they also deliver a strong portfolio of research and product innovation.

Grounds Maintenance for NHS Trust

Naturally, providing support to the thousands of patients and visitors is, understandably, a challenge. Utilising wall space for bright designs and welcoming play areas with activities to keep patients occupied is one major step towards offering support. Another way is to ensure the hospital is always looking at its best both inside and out.

To achieve a sympathetic appearance across multiple sites all year round, the hospital recognised the importance of choosing a professional and established grounds maintenance and landscaping contractor. During initial consultation, the aim was to work with the Trust to make improvements inline with their values, which offered a benefit to patients and the long-term plan. Additionally, a cost-effective yet quality grounds maintenance service was key to ensuring the upmost customer care was considered throughout.

Landscaping and Maintenance Scheme

Working with the Trust, we have developed a maintenance schedule that adapts around specific requirements. From working in sensitive areas with specific site time arrival and utilising battery powered machinery to reduce noise levels at certain times. For instance, one of the sites has strict access and egress; requiring our staff to liaise with the hospital for working arrangements.

Thanks to our 40 years experience of being a grounds maintenance contractor, we were able to establish a well-thought out schedule that worked for the Trust. With a complete maintenance service undertaken fortnightly, including multiple litter picking visits a week, we are able to ensure that the sites across the Trust always offer a sympathetic appearance for patients and visitors.

Additionally, in synergy with the tailored grounds maintenance, we carry out adhoc landscaping and renovations around the sites. This has included the installation and subsequent maintenance of a roof garden as well as tree and seeding works.
