Commercial Garden Landscape Creation for Business Centre

Pure Offices Gloucester is a purpose-built business centre that offers a range of flexible workspace services and onsite facilities that include 24-hour access, high-speed broadband, a café and even showers. To match the high-quality services the building provides inside, it was only fitting that it got a high-quality outdoor space to further elevate the facilities on offer.

Catering to people looking for everything from single-person offices to large studio spaces, the business centre was concerned that they didn’t have enough break-out areas on offer to accommodate everybody as they would like. Our brief was to take the currently unused outdoor area and create a commercial garden landscape, transforming it into a much needed year-round space for occupiers and visitors alike to enjoy.

We’re all aware by now that having access to nature and outdoor spaces has a positive effect on mental health. This is why the SPA Landscaping team was more than happy to help provide workers with an outdoor respite where they can take in some fresh air when they need a breather from the demands of corporate life.

The environmentally conscious business centre is committed to more sustainable business practices. With a Net Zero focus, it boasts solar panels, bicycle storage to encourage tenants to ditch the car and a high EPC rating to ensure that it’s energy-efficient. Keeping in line with their eco-friendly values, it made sense that this multi-functional office building should have an impressive exterior space to match, with pieces included that reflect this ethos.

The site has an ample amount of green space surrounding the building, however it was lacking anything that welcomed people to stick around and savour the space as an extension of the offices – somewhere to eat lunch, socialise with co-workers or simply give their eyes a break from screens.

The outdoor space we were brought in to renovate already comprised of a patio space and small garden bed of plants and shrubs. The patio space was a reasonable size, and the plants gave it some visual interest, but with no furniture and no structure to it, it wasn’t particularly inviting. By extending the patio area, we could create more space for people at the business centre to sit out and enjoy the scenery.

Our team got to work on excavating the surrounding area to prepare for the installation of both soft and hard landscaping themes to expand both of these existing features.

The addition of more garden beds gave us the opportunity to add extra visual interest with an array of different plants, shrubs and ornamental grasses that will create year-round interest no matter the season. On top of adding more plants to the ground with additional bed space, we also incorporated stand-alone planters to create more structure. The planters - alongside the added bedding shrubs on the outer edge - act as partitions that separate the seating area from the rest of the space to provide some privacy for the users and bring the whole space together as a welcoming space to take a break. We also included some decorative dividers to allow for more privacy between benches within the space.

We opted for modern outdoor benches and tables in a darker colour - as opposed to traditional natural-coloured garden furniture - to complement the modern office environment. The free-standing benches mean none of the awkward climbing in to sit down that you get with a typical picnic bench, and they can also be easily moved to create more space if required. Aligning with the company’s sustainability goals, the garden furniture chosen is also made from 100% recycled plastic, making it better for the environment as well as being perfect for weathering the unpredictable - and often cold and wet - UK climate.
